The mission of The Medical Institute of Kentucky is to provide a quality education with career training for the medical industry.  This mission is met through the following:

Kristi Bertrand, MPH, CMA (AAMA), CPC, PBT (ASCP)
Director of Education

Kristi has over 10 years of patient care experience with 14 years as an educator, program director, and department chair providing management and direction of sixteen allied health programs. As a site surveyor for CAAHEP medical assisting programs, Kristi has found a passion for accreditation and ensuring program effectiveness. Kristi holds a Masters’ in Public Health, Bachelor’s in Community Health Education, and an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting with certifications in medical assisting, health education, medical coding, and phlebotomy.


Trisha Mullins, RN, BS, MS, ARNP
Associate Director of Education

Trisha is an experienced health care provider with clinical, administrative, and teaching experience spanning across a thirty year career. Previous endeavors included co-ownership of an OB-GYN practice in Jacksonville , Florida; Women’s Health Nurse Consultant for the Kentucky Department for Public Health; Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance Coordinator for local health care providers, as well as experience as a full-time educator in allied health programs for a local college. Trisha’s goals as an educator with The Medical Institute of Kentucky include helping students develop knowledge, professionalism, and the desire to provide the best possible healthcare to their patients, with the skills necessary to do so.


Evie Mann, RMA
Associate Director of Education, Florence

Evie comes to The Medical Institute of Kentucky with thirteen years of experience in the medical field, the last seven of which, have been directly with education having worked as Program Director and Educator in post-secondary medical education. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting and a certification as a Registered Medical Assistant. Evie is passionate about helping people and strives to help students develop the skills necessary to be compassionate, caring, and skilled health care professionals.

Jaime Cress, CMA (AAMA)
Career Services Director/ Instructor/ Externship Coordinator

Jaime has found the field of Medical Assisting to be a very rewarding career choice. After recieving her Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting, she externed at an Urgent Treatment Clinic and then began working in the family practice setting performing both assistant office manager tasks as well as serving as head clinical CMA. Jaime is proud to offer her knowledge and guidance in these areas to the students at The Medical Institute of Kentucky as they pursue rewarding careers of their own in the healthcare field.


Laura Campbell, LPN
Instructor

Laura is a graduate of Bluegrass Community and Technical College, with a Diploma in Practical Nursing (LPN) and an Associate’s Degree of Applied Sciences. Laura practiced primarily in the hospital setting after graduating, working on orthopedic and medical/surgical units. Laura has taught at The Medical Institute of Kentucky since April 2009, coordinating the Nursing Assistant Program, American Heart Association CPR, and instructing within the Clinical Medical Assisting Program.


Ana Fisher, RN
Instructor



Ana received her ASN degree in California, graduating with honors.  Ana has worked as an RN for more than fifteen years, a career that began in a major trauma center in Bakersfield, California.  She has since served as a Hospice nurse in home health, worked in ICU settings, worked as a Pediatric Nurse, and was the case manager for the Fayette County TB program. Ana loves teaching, particularly because she likes helping students achieve their career goals.


Christine Richie, CMA (AAMA)
Instructor



Christine holds an Associate’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and has worked in a

multi-physician gastroenterology office for twenty-nine years.  Christine has many years experience with phlebotomy, CLIA competency, and OSHA training.  She has served as an adjunct instructor in postsecondary education for several years teaching phlebotomy and medical terminology. She is married and has two children, ages twenty and twenty-one.


Tara Frazier
Admissions Specialist



Tara has an Associate’s Degree in Business Management. Her background includes banking, financial aid, and career services.  Tara has worked in postsecondary education for several years and truly looks forward to helping you!


Erin Goins
Director of Admissions



Erin graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, minor in History, and a Masters’ in Education.  Her background includes working in advertising, management on the national level, and more than five years in postsecondary education admissions.  Erin loves meeting new people and seeing them reach their career goals so quickly, without the expense, extra courses, and time commitment necessary for traditional colleges and universities.
